Composer TutorialAdding Content - What can I say |
|
So you're ready to add content to your pages. This can be the hardest part
of creating web pages...knowing what to put on them. Those decisions can
come later, for right now, anything is fine. We just want to learn how
to get it on the pages.
At this
point you could just start typing away, save it and you would have an html
document. Pretty boring, huh? Well, let's do it anyway. Just start typing,
anything you want, it doesn't matter. Type enough to produce at least a
couple of lines of text.

After you've typed some text into your document, click on the Preview button located on the Toolbar. If you have never saved this page before, you will prompted with a Save New Page box. In order to view your page with the changes you've made, you must save it with either as an htm or html extension. | |
|
If you're using the page you already created in the first section then
your box will look different. It will ask you if you want to save the changes
that you made to "your_file.html". Your options will be |

What you will see then is Netscape pop up with your page in view. You can
do this through out the whole process of making your pages. It allows you
to see just what your changes will look like through out the whole process
of creating them.
Your Composer window will also still be open, just waiting for you to come back to it. If you don't like what you see, all you have to do is go back to the Composer window, make some changes, click on the Preview button and then view your latest creation with Netscape. Pretty simple, huh? Okay, let's close the Netscape window and go back to Composer. |
|
|
To start fresh, just place your cursor at the beginning or end of the text
and either use the Backspace or Delete key to get rid of it. Or highlight
all the text then hit Delete. Yes, it's that easy. Composer, in some respects
works just like a word processor.
The image on the right shows the Formatting Bar. This is a small but powerful tool with Composer. It will change the text color, position and attributes. Hold your mouse over each of the different options on the Formatting Bar to see what each one is called. To the far left is the Paragraph Style drop down menu and to the far right is the Alignment button. I will use these terms throughout the tutorial. |

| Okay, let's play with the formatting just a little. |

Click on the Preview button again. Here is a screen shot of what I did
during the tutorial. Some of the screen shots aren't that good but when
you are trying to capture a whole window and then reduce it to a manageable
size, something is going to give. Usually quality.
As you can see, there is nothing hard about adding content to your page. It all depends on what you want to say and how you want to say it. Learning these basic steps is just the beginning with this program. There are some advanced formatting options covered in the next tutorial. What did you say! You say you don't like the looks of the bullets and you want to change them. Well, learn how in the next step. |
|
| So we've added some content and learned about some of the basic functions of the Formatting Bar. We changed some text attributes and made a bulleted list. Next comes some advanced features of formatting. |
